$5,500,000 million dollar verdict. The plaintiff was assaulted and raped by a mistakenly released New York State Correctional Facility prisoner. A second woman was raped and killed by the same prisoner. The law firm tried the case jointly with the second victim’s attorney and obtained a combined verdict for $5,500,000. The verdict was the first in which the State of New York was held liable for injuries caused by the mistaken release of a prison convict.

The hearing officer awarded our client the full limit of the policy, an additional $275,000. Furthermore, the hearing officer commented in his decision that the plaintiff’s injuries exceeded the policy limits and awarded arbitration fees as well.
